KCPA History

The KCPA was created by Resolution of the Kern County Board of Supervisors on January 26, 1993.  Since that time, the KCPA has negotiated five different Memorandums of Understanding (“MOU’s) with the County of Kern.  In addition to setting salary schedules, the MOU’s constitute the basic working contract for all of the deputy district attorneys and Child Support attorneys within Kern County.  The MOU’s govern KCPA members’ terms of employment with Kern County and specifically provide for medical, dental and other health benefits, as well as sick leave, vacation, and other conditions of employment.

Article III of the Kern County Prosecutors Association’s Articles of Association state that the primary purposes of the KCPA are:

  1. To encourage the practice of law in the field of criminal prosecution as a profession;
  2. To promote and advance professional competency in the practice of criminal prosecution;
  3. To promote ethical principles and practices for prosecutors;
  4. To advance the interests of prosecuting attorneys employed in the office of the District Attorney of Kern County and to promote their economic well-being;
  5. To represent prosecuting attorneys who are employees of the County of Kern in the office of the District Attorney in their employment relations with the County of Kern.
  6. To promote full communication and improve relations between the County of Kern and prosecuting attorneys employed in the office of the District Attorne of Kern County.
