White Collar Crime White Collar Crime is traditionally considered to encompass those forms of theft that are committed by business professionals or those who wear “white collars.” They include fraud and bankruptcy fraud, bribery, insider trading, embezzlement, computer crime and forgery. Depending on whether federal or state law has been violated, white collar crimes can be prosecuted at the federal or state level. Penalties vary, but in some cases can result in large fines, restitution, and jail or prison sentences. White Collar crimes should be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency, just as one would report any other type of crime. The majority of the White Collar Crime cases in Kern County would be reported to either the Bakersfield Police Department or the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
